Who doesn’t love Shrove Tuesday? In honour of this delicious day of treats we thought we’d revisit one of our highlights from last year’s National Wonders tour - our trip to the Olney Pancake Race!
This fun pancake-flipping chase takes place every year on Shrove Tuesday in the market town of Olney in Buckinghamshire.
The ladies who compete have to toss their pancake from start to finish while wearing a scarf and apron, a tradition which apparently dates back to 1445. The USA town of Liberal in Kansas even got themselves involved by challenging Olney back in 1950. Since then it has been an international competition between the two towns to see who can run it the quickest!
