Arriving at Stansted Airport

To ensure a stress-free travel experience we recommend you get to the airport at least 3 hours before your scheduled flight departure time.

Once you've left the coach at our Stansted Airport station, you can refuel and recover before you even enter the terminal. Plus, with coffee shops, toilet facilities, newsagents and more on-site, you’ll soon be set for the next part of your trip.

Frequently asked questions

Can I buy my ticket onboard my coach?

Yes* you can buy your ticket from London to Stansted Airport onboard your National Express coach.

If you would like to purchase a ticket onboard your coach from London to Stansted, please be aware of the following:

  • Drivers can accept cash only. To avoid delays please ensure you have the correct change.
  • If your journey from London to Stansted requires a change of coach, you must purchase a ticket on board each new coach.
  • Please ensure you obtain a physical ticket from the driver which you should carry at all times.
  • All our drivers should be able to sell tickets, although if there are ticketing facilities available they may refer you to the ticket office, to purchase your ticket.

In addition, you can call the National Express Contact Centre on 08717 818181 between 10am and 6pm, 7 days a week. Calls cost 13p per minute plus your phone company's access charge.

*Except at Heathrow Airport where tickets must be purchased from the ticket desk, ticket machine or in advance of travel.

What should I do if my flight is cancelled?

If your flight is cancelled at short notice and you don't need to travel from London to Stansted by coach, please contact your airline or travel insurer to recover the costs.

If you have purchased a refundable ticket and you cancel your ticket at least 72 hours prior to your outward journey, you will be able to claim a refund subject to our usual terms and conditions.

How much time should I allow before check-in for my flight?

When booking your coach from London to Stansted Airport, plan to arrive at the airport no later than 3 hours before the departure time of your flight.

Even if you have checked in online, leave at least an hour to clear security at the airport.

Is it possible to catch an earlier coach?

If your flight arrives early it is possible to catch an earlier coach from Stansted to London. When arriving at Stansted airport, find a member of the National Express team and they will be happy to help you.

Any changes you make will be subject to an amendment fee and an excess fare, depending on the ticket type you booked.

Please note, amendments will only be available on Fully Flexible and Standard tickets.

What should I do if my flight is delayed?

We advise when booking a coach from Stansted Airport to allow at least 1 hour 30 minutes after landing to clear passport control, collect any luggage and make your way to our departure point.

Flexible and Standard tickets can only be amended before the time of departure and might be subject to an amendment fee, excess fare and seat availability. If your flight is delayed, contact our staff as soon as possible.

For peace of mind, our Change Coach Add-on is available when you book from our online 'add extras' page, allowing you to:

  • Board any available coach 12 hours before or 12 hours after your original departure time.
  • Amend your ticket to a new departure date – free of charge
  • Cancel up to 24 hours before departure and receive a refund

Alternatively, open return tickets will allow you to be booked onto the next available service without extra fees. This ticket is valid for 3 months from the original date of departure.

Tickets purchased through for London to Stansted Airport transfers may take up to 24 hours to be delivered via e-mail.
