Southampton: attractions

  • Cruises have been a popular attraction with tourists in Southampton since 1840. The £40m port is a base for four dedicated cruise terminals, all offering you a relaxing, memorable way to explore the city and the surrounding area.

 

  • History lovers should head to The Medieval Merchants House, situated just outside the city centre. Taking a look at Southampton’s old town, the house has been restored to its mid-14th-century appearance, complete with replica period furnishings.

 

  • The Tudor House, Southampton’s most important historic building, encompasses nearly 1000 years of history. Gain first hand insight into the lives of former residents of the house through free audio guides.

Southampton: shopping

  • WestQuay Shopping Centre is home to more than 100 high street favourite shops and eateries, and is a great way to spend the day if shopping is your thing. Fun events take place in the Centre all year round, offering entertainment for children of all ages.

 

  • Just a short walk from the city centre, Bedford Place houses an array of independent, up-market businesses, restaurants and coffee shops. A unique area which has retained the atmosphere of a bygone era; a visit here feels like stepping back in time, and it is easy to spend a day exploring its many hidden treasures.

Southampton: for free

  • Less than 30 minutes from the city centre is the famous New Forest. Inhabited by wild ponies, horses and deer, the forest spans a history of almost 1000 years. Stroll through unspoilt foliage and scenery or take a leisurely bike ride along one of the many cycle routes.
  • Perfect for a family day out, Itchen Valley Country Park has around 440 acres of Green Flag awarded water meadows, woodland and picnic and play areas.
