Children under 14 years of age are not permitted to travel without being accompanied throughout the journey by a responsible person aged 16 years or over.
Children aged 14 - 15 years old may travel unaccompanied, as from 5am, arriving at their booked destination no later than 10pm. Unaccompanied children will be asked for proof of age or a signed letter of permission from their parent/guardian. (sms or chat based messages are not permissible)

One infant aged 0-2 travels free when accompanied by an adult with a valid ticket. Additional infants aged 0-2 must be paid for. If you are travelling with more than 1 infant aged 0-2, please book the additional infant as 'Children (3-15).

Express Yourself prize draw terms

  1. The promoter of the prize draw is National Express Limited (Company Number 00232767) of National Express House, Birmingham Coach Station, Mill Lane, Digbeth, Birmingham, B5 6DD (“National Express”).
  2. The prize draw is open to all UK residents aged 18 or over, except for employees of National Express and its group of companies, their families and agents or any third party directly associated with administration of this prize draw.
  3. The prize draw is free to enter and no purchase is necessary.
  4. Subject to the restriction on the number of entries referred to in condition 7, you will be automatically entered into the prize draw when you take a photograph:
    1. of one or more individuals using one of the photo boards located in certain of our coach stations;
    2. you upload that photograph to:
      i. Facebook;
      ii. Instagram; or
      iii. Twitter, tagging ‘@nationalexpress’ and using the tagline ‘#nationalexpressyourself’; and
    3. in our reasonable opinion, that photograph is not of an obscene nature or contrary to the spirit of the prize draw.
  5. All entries must be submitted in accordance with condition 4.
  6. The prize draw runs from 09:00 hours on Wednesday 10 August 2022 and closes at midnight on Tuesday 13 September 2022 (the “Closing Date”). Photographs uploaded after the Closing Date will not be valid entries and will not be entered into the prize draw.
  7. There is a limit of one prize draw entry per person by each of Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. You may not use more than one email address, identity or device in an attempt to circumvent this restriction.
  8. In entering the prize draw, you confirm that you are eligible to do so and eligible to claim any prize you may win. National Express may require you to provide proof that you are eligible to enter the prize draw.
  9. Twenty five (25) winners will be chosen by random draw performed by a computer process on Wednesday 14 September 2022.
  10. Each winner who claims their prize in accordance with terms and conditions will receive a prize of a voucher code which they can redeem to obtain free return coach travel on any National Express scheduled UK coach service (excluding Northern Ireland) (the “Service”) for two (2) passengers.
  11. The voucher code must be redeemed by 23:59 hours on Saturday 31 December 2022. The return coach travel redeemed using the voucher code:
    1. is subject to availability on the chosen Service; and
    2. is subject to National Express’ General Conditions of Carriage, available at https://www.nationalexpress.com/en/help/conditions-of-carriage.
  12. Each winner will be notified by private message sent to the winner using the relevant social media platform on which the winner’s photograph was submitted, using the details provided by the entrant at the time of entry, by midnight on Thursday 15 September 2022. To claim their prize, each winner will be required to reply to the private message on the relevant social media platform and confirm their surname and the name of the county in which they reside.
  13. If a winner does not claim their prize in accordance with these terms and conditions within five (5) days of being notified by private message on the relevant social media platform, the winner's prize will be forfeited and National Express will be entitled to select another winner in accordance with the process described above.
  14. The prize is non-exchangeable, non-transferable and no cash alternative is offered. The prize may not be claimed by a third party on your behalf.
  15. National Express reserves the right to replace the prize with an alternative prize of equal or higher value if circumstances beyond National Express’ control make it necessary to do so.
  16. The decision of National Express regarding any aspect of the prize draw is final and binding and no correspondence will be entered into about it.
  17. National Express must either publish or make available information that indicates that a valid award took place. To comply with this obligation, National Express will send the surname and county of each prize winner and, if applicable, a copy of their entry, to anyone who emails expressyourself@nationalexpress.com or writes to National Express at National Express House, Birmingham Coach Station, Mill Lane, Digbeth, Birmingham, England B5 6DD (enclosing a self-addressed envelope) within one (1) month after the Closing Date. If you object to any or all of your surname, county and winning entry being published or made available, please notify expressyourself@nationalexpress.com. In such circumstances, National Express must still provide the information and winning entries to the Advertising Standards Authority on request.
  18. The prize draw is in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with Facebook, Instagram and/or Twitter. You hereby agree to release Facebook, Instagram and Twitter from any responsibility in respect of the prize draw.
  19. By entering the prize draw, you are deemed to have accepted and agreed to be bound by these terms and conditions upon entry. National Express reserves the right to refuse entry, or refuse to award the prize to anyone in breach of these terms and conditions.
  20. National Express reserves the right to hold, void, cancel, suspend or amend the prize draw where it becomes necessary to do so.
  21. Insofar as it is permitted by law, National Express, its agents or distributors will not in any circumstances be responsible or liable to compensate any winner or accept any liability for any loss, damage, personal injury or death occurring as a result of entering the prize draw or taking up the prize except where it is caused by the negligence of National Express, its agents or distributors or that of their employees. Your statutory rights are not affected.
  22. Personal data supplied by you during the course of this prize draw will only be processed in accordance with our Privacy Notice at https://www.nationalexpress.com/en/expressyourself/privacy. See also condition 17 with regard to the announcement of winners.
  23. The prize draw will be governed by English law and entrants to the prize draw submit to the jurisdiction of the English courts.
  24. No responsibility can be accepted for lost or misplaced entries and incomplete or incorrect entries will be disregarded.

Our privacy policy

1. Who does this privacy notice apply to, and what is it about?

This privacy notice applies to personal data submitted in connection with the prize draw. This privacy notice applies to you and to any other person whose image you submit in connection with the prize draw (“Person”). References to “you” and “your” in this privacy notice shall be references to you and (where applicable) each Person.

This privacy notice explains:

  • who is the controller of your personal data;
  • what personal data we collect about you;
  • what we do with your personal data and on what legal basis;
  • your rights in respect of your personal data; and
  • what to do if you have any questions or complaints about our use of your personal data.

We take your privacy very seriously and are committed to abiding by the Data Protection Laws which protect your privacy.

It is your responsibility to read this privacy notice and to make each Person aware of this privacy notice.

If you provide images of a Person under the age of 18 in connection with the prize draw then by doing so you are agreeing that you are the parent or guardian of that Person, or that you have the appropriate authority to provide such images.

2. Who is the controller of your personal data?

National Express Limited, trading as National Express, is the controller of your personal data.

3. What personal data do we collect about you, and how?

We may collect the following types of personal data about you in connection with the prize draw:

  • your name;
  • your image;
  • your social media handle; and
  • any other personal data that you provide to us when you visit our website or when you communicate with us.

In addition, if you are a winner of the prize draw, we will collect your surname and the name of the county you reside in, when you claim your prize.

In addition, each time you visit our website we may automatically collect the following information:

  • technical data, including:
    • IP address;
    • browser type and version;
    • time zone setting and location; and
    • operating system and platform;
  • information about your time on the site, including:
    • the full Uniform Resource Locators (URLs) clickstream to, through and from our website (including date and time); and
    • time on page, page response times, download errors, length of visits to certain pages, page interaction information (such as scrolling, clicks and mouse-overs) and methods used to browse away from the page.

4. What do we do with your personal data and on what basis?

We use your personal data for the following purposes and describe below the legal basis on which we process your personal data:

5. What if we have obtained your consent to use your personal data?

We do not process your personal data on the basis of your consent except in relation to the use of cookies.

Where you have consented to the use of cookies, you may withdraw that consent at any time by changing your cookie settings as explained in our cookie policy.

6. What are our obligations to collect, and your obligations to provide, personal data?

We have no legal obligation to collect personal data about you, but we need to collect personal data in order to enter you into the prize draw and to administer the prize draw in accordance with the prize draw terms and conditions.

You have no legal obligation to provide us with any personal data. However, if you do not provide the information we need, we may not be able to enter you into the prize draw or award your prize if you are a winner.

7. Who will we share your personal data with?

We may share your personal data with:

  • other National Express Group companies;
  • social media companies, including Facebook, Instagram and/or Twitter;
  • if you are a winner, members of the public who request winners’ surnames and counties of residence (unless you object in accordance with the prize draw terms and conditions);
  • our suppliers, sub-contractors and business partners who supply services to us and/or on our behalf;
  • our legal and professional advisors;
  • government bodies and regulatory authorities and bodies, including the Advertising Standards Authority;
  • the courts and other dispute resolution arbitrators and mediators, other parties to legal proceedings; and
  • other companies that take on any part of our business as a result of a restructure, merger or transfer of that part of our business.

Please note that your social media providers will process the images you post to your social media accounts. Such third parties will process your personal data as separate data controllers in their own right and will have published their own respective privacy policies.

We do not accept any responsibility or liability for these notices or policies or the social media providers’ handling of your personal data. Please check the relevant social media providers’ privacy notice before you submit any personal data to their respective websites.

8. For how long will we process your personal data?

We will process the personal data for as long as the prize draw is open and for so long thereafter as is necessary for us to manage the outcome of the prize draw.

Typically, we will retain information about you if you are a winner of the prize draw for up to 18 months after the close of the prize draw or if you are an unsuccessful prize draw entrant, for up to 6 months after the close of the prize draw.

We may also need to retain information about you for longer where any complaints are made or claims arise in relation to the prize draw, or your participation in the prize draw, or otherwise where we are required by law, regulation or the rules or orders of courts to retain information for longer.

We may also retain your personal data for longer if we cannot delete it for legal, regulatory or technical reasons.

9. Do we transfer your personal data outside of the UK?

There may be occasions where it is necessary to transfer your personal data to a country outside of the United Kingdom (“UK”). It is possible that the country concerned may not be deemed to provide a similar level of protection for individuals’ rights in relation to their personal data as in the UK.

Where we transfer your personal data to other National Express Group companies and/or third parties who process your personal data on our behalf in countries outside the UK, we ensure a similar degree of protection is afforded to it by implementing one of the following safeguards:

  • we transfer to a country that has been deemed to provide an adequate level of protection for personal data; or
  • where the country has not been deemed to provide an adequate level of protection for personal data, we will have entered into contracts approved for use in the UK which give personal data the same protection as it has in the UK.

10. What rights do you have in relation to your personal data?

You have a number of rights under Data Protection Laws in relation to your personal data. These include the right, subject to exceptions, to:

  • access your personal data;
  • request rectification or erasure of your personal data;
  • request restrictions on the processing of your personal data; and
  • object to our processing of your personal data.

If you wish to exercise any of these rights please contact the National Express UK Data Protection Officer.

You also have the right in some circumstances to receive a copy of your personal data in a portable format. This right is limited to personal data that you have provided to us and is processed on the basis of your consent or any contract with us. It does not cover personal data that we process on the grounds of legitimate interest.
