Spook-tacular trips made simple: Halloween by National Express
Halloween is almost upon us, which means the nation is about to be overrun with ghosts, ghouls, and at least three people dressed as Wednesday Addams.
If you’re wondering how to make the most of the spooky season without the headache of parking, train strikes, or actually driving yourself, fear not. At National Express, we’re here to whisk you off to the UK’s best Halloween events, stress-free, great value, and without the risk of accidentally summoning a demon in your sat nav.
So grab your broomstick (or suitcase) and join us on the coach. Here are some of the best Halloween happenings you can reach with a little help from us.
London – The Tower of London’s nightmares
Nothing says Halloween like a fortress famous for executions, ghosts, and the odd raven giving you side-eye. This year, the Tower is hosting night tours with tales of torture and betrayal.
🚌 Coach to: London Victoria
🎃 Fear factor: You’ll never look at a crown the same way again.
Edinburgh – Samhuinn Fire Festival
Forget carving pumpkins. Edinburgh does Halloween the ancient way, with fire, drumming, and street performances to celebrate the Celtic New Year. Think less “plastic vampire fangs,” more “myth, ritual and actual flames.”
🚌 Coach to: Edinburgh Bus Station
🎃 Fear factor: Trying to explain the plot to your friends afterwards.
Manchester – Scare city experience
Abandoned buildings? Check. Horrors lurking in the dark? Check. Professional actors who really enjoy chasing you down corridors? Double check.
🚌 Coach to: Manchester Central Coach Station
🎃 Fear factor: You’ll run faster than you did in Year 9 PE.
Birmingham – The haunted house at Aston Hall
Our home city doesn’t disappoint. Aston Hall, a 17th-century mansion with a ghost count high enough to qualify for its own reality TV show, throws open its creaky doors for tours and spooky nights.
🚌 Coach to: Birmingham Coach Station
🎃 Fear factor: Victorian children ghosts. Enough said.
Brighton – The ghost walk of the lanes
By day, Brighton is all seafront charm. By night, it’s a labyrinth of haunted pubs, phantom monks, and suspicious cold drafts that definitely weren’t just the wind.
🚌 Coach to: Brighton Coach Station
🎃 Fear factor: Wondering if your pint is haunted.
York – The original ghost walk
York is basically the UK’s unofficial ghost capital. Cobbled streets, shadowy alleyways, and storytellers who could make a tax return sound terrifying—this is a must.
🚌 Coach to: York
🎃 Fear factor: Cobbles + fear = dangerous combo. Wear sensible shoes.
And if you fancy something… further afield
Because Halloween isn’t just a UK thing. Thanks to our direct coach services to major airports across the country, you can swap a rainy ghost walk for something a little more continental.
Dublin – Bram Stoker Festival
The Irish gave the world Dracula, and they don’t let you forget it. Dublin’s Bram Stoker Festival is a citywide celebration with theatre, music, parades, and just enough gothic atmosphere to make you wonder if that shadow was moving.
🚌 Coach to: Birmingham Airport, Heathrow, or Gatwick for flights to Dublin
🎃 Fear factor: Accidentally trying an Irish coffee after 9pm.
Transylvania, Romania – Halloween at Bran Castle
Yes, that castle. Every year, Bran Castle, aka Dracula’s alleged gaff, hosts a massive Halloween party with DJs, costumes, and more vampires than a Twilight boxset. It’s touristy, yes, but if you’re going to do Dracula, you may as well go all in.
🚌 Coach to: London airports for flights to Bucharest
🎃 Fear factor: Getting too into it and Googling Romanian property prices.
Stress-Free spooking with National Express
Whether you’re chasing phantoms in York, dancing with fire in Edinburgh, or partying with vampires in Transylvania, travelling by coach means you can sit back, relax, and leave the driving to us. We’ll even get you straight to the airport terminal if your Halloween spirit demands something abroad.
So this Halloween, skip the broomstick. Hop on a National Express coach instead. Cheaper than an exorcist, and the seats are much more comfortable.
