In May we launched a brand new competition called Driving Design where we offered aspiring artists the chance of seeing their work come to life across the side of one of National Express' iconic 14-metre-long coaches, that will transport passengers around the country for an entire year.
The winner of Driving Design 2019 is 27-year-old Sergej Komkov from Hull.

1. THE PROMOTER
The promoter is NATIONAL EXPRESS LIMITED of National Express House, Birmingham Coach Station, Mill Lane, Digbeth, Birmingham, England B5 6DD (referred to as “we” or “us” in these terms and conditions).
2. THE COMPETITION
2.1 The title of the competition is “Driving Design”.
2.2 The competition is aimed at young artists (between 16 and 30 years old) to win the opportunity to showcase their style and talent across one side of a National Express coach, which will travel the country for an entire year. Alongside this top prize, the winner will receive a cash prize of £500, 2 tickets to Boomtown Fair, 2 free return coach travel vouchers to the event, one 12 month coach pass for concessionary travel and one day of on-the-job learning with an established artist which will result in their work being showcased at this year’s High Vis Festival in Birmingham.
3. HOW TO ENTER
3.1 All competition entries must be received by us via email at driving.design@nationalexpress.com or via post to Driving Design, National Express House, Birmingham Coach Station, Mill Lane, Digbeth, Birmingham, B5 6DD, by no later than midnight on the Closing Date of Monday 10 June 2019. Closing Date. (The “Closing Date”) inclusive.
3.2 All competition entries received after the Closing Date are automatically disqualified.
3.3 To enter the competition, you are required to:
(a) read and comply with the details for entry at www.nationalexpress.com/en/driving-design; and
(b) submit your entry in the required formats, together with your full name, age, contact telephone number, email address and details about your interest in art and design and why winning this competition is important to you, to driving.design@nationalexpress.com or via post to Driving Design, National Express House, Birmingham Coach Station, Mill Lane, Digbeth, Birmingham, B5 6DD.
3.4 The competition is free to enter and no purchase is necessary.
3.5 We will not accept responsibility for competition entries that are lost, mislaid, damaged or delayed in transit, regardless of cause, including, for example, as a result of any postal failure, equipment failure, technical malfunction, systems, satellite, network, server, computer hardware or software failure of any kind.
3.6 By submitting your entry, you are agreeing to be bound by these terms and conditions.
3.7 Shortly after the Closing Date, our panel of judges will shortlist up to 10 "Driving Designs" which will be posted online, subject to an online public vote. The public vote will close at 12:00 midday on Monday 15 July 2019.
3.8 The “Driving Design” that receives the most public votes will automatically be selected as the winner.
4. ELIGIBILITY
4.1 The competition is only open to all UK residents aged between 16 and 30 years, except our employees and employees of our group companies (and members of their respective households and families).
4.2 In entering the competition, you confirm that you are eligible to do so and eligible to claim the prize. We may require you to provide proof that you are eligible to enter the competition.
4.3 There is a limit of one entry to the competition per person. Entries on behalf of another person will not be accepted and joint submissions are not allowed.
4.4 We reserve all rights to disqualify you if your conduct is contrary to the spirit or intention of the competition.
4.5 We will not return competition entries to you.
5. THE PRIZE
5.1 The prize comprises, the following:
(a) the winning “Driving Design” will be placed on one side of a National Express coach which will travel the country for a year;
(b) a cash prize of £500;
(c) 2 Public Transport Festival Entry Tickets to Boomtown Fair from Wednesday 7 August to Monday 12 August.
Important: Should the competition winner be under the age of 18, they will need to be accompanied to the festival by a linked adult ticket holder aged 30+. More information about teen tickets to Boomtown Fair can be found here.
Tickets will be distributed via email.
(d) 2 free return coach travel vouchers to Boomtown Fair;
(e) One 12 month coach pass for concessionary travel
(f) one day of on-the-job learning with an established artist which will result in their work being showcased at this year’s High Vis Festival in Birmingham on Saturday 7 September 2019.
5.2 The prize is not negotiable or transferable and there is no cash alternative for the prize.
5.3 We reserve the right to replace the prize with an alternative prize of equal or higher value if circumstances beyond our control makes it necessary to do so.
5.4 In order to claim the prize you must email driving.design@nationalexpress.com.
5.5 All tickets are issued and all passengers are carried subject to our General Conditions of Carriage, as well as our Privacy Policy.
6. WINNERS
6.1 The winner of the competition will be announced on Tuesday 23 July 2019 (the “Announcement Date”).
6.2 Our decision is final and no correspondence or discussion will be entered into.
6.3 We will contact the winner personally as soon as practicable after the Announcement Date, using the telephone number or email address provided with the competition entry.
7. CLAIMING THE PRIZE
7.1 If you are the winner of the prize, you will have seven days from the Announcement Date to claim the prize by emailing us at driving.design@nationalexpress.com.
7.2 The prize may not be claimed by a third party on your behalf.
7.3 We will make all reasonable efforts to contact the winner. If the winner cannot be contacted or is not available, or has not claimed their prize within seven days of the Announcement Date, we reserve the right to offer the prize to the next eligible entrant selected from the correct entries that were received before the Closing Date.
7.4 We do not accept any responsibility if you are not able to take up the prize.
8. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
Insofar as is permitted by law, we, our agents or distributors will not in any circumstances be responsible or liable to compensate the winner or accept any liability for any loss, damage, personal injury or death occurring as a result of taking up the prize except where it is caused by our negligence or negligence of our agents or distributors or that of their employees. Your statutory rights are not affected.
9. OWNERSHIP OF COMPETITION ENTRIES AND INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS
9.1 All competition entries and any accompanying material submitted to us will become our property on receipt. In the event that we return your competition entry to you in accordance with Clause 9.2, then property in such competition entry shall revert back to you.
9.2 If your competition entry is:
(a) shortlisted, then we will return your competition entry to you shortly after the Announcement Date;
(b) not shortlisted, then we will (i) destroy your competition entry; or (ii) return your competition entry to you shortly after the Announcement Date, provided that we receive confirmation of your request prior to the Announcement Date; and
(c) selected as the winner, then we will return your competition entry to you shortly after the period of use as set in these terms and conditions.
9.3 By submitting your competition entry and any accompanying material, you agree to:
(a) assign to us all your intellectual property rights with full title guarantee; and
(b) waive all moral rights,
in and to your competition entry and otherwise arising in connection with your entry to which you may now or at any time in the future be entitled under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 as amended from time to time and under all similar legislation from time to time in force anywhere in the world. If you are the winner of the prize, you accept that the prize is adequate payment for all intellectual property rights in the competition entry and accompanying materials.
10. DATA PROTECTION AND PUBLICITY
10.1 We will only process your personal information as set out in our Privacy Policy.
10.2 Artists that are shortlisted and the overall winner will be required to participate in publicity regarding this competition and the prizes. This may include the use of the name, and image, photography, filming, interviews and speaking to the media about this competition.
11. GENERAL
11.1 If there is any reason to believe that there has been a breach of these terms and conditions, we may, at its sole discretion, reserve the right to exclude you from participating in the competition.
11.2 We reserve the right to hold void, suspend, cancel, or amend the prize competition where it becomes necessary to do so.
11.3 These terms and conditions shall be governed by English law, and the parties submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
