Things to do in Winchester

There's plenty to see and do in Winchester from great shopping to parks and museums. Enjoy some classic culture with a trip to Winchester Cathedral, then explore the fascinating ruins of Wolvesey Castle. For something a little more modern, take a visit to Winchester Science Centre and Planetarium for two floors of incredible interactive exhibits.

Winchester's compact city centre makes it easy to explore on foot, with charming independent shops and cafes dotted throughout the historic streets.

Hospital of St Cross

Discover the Hospital of St Cross - England's oldest almshouse still providing hospitality, where you can claim the ancient Wayfarer's Dole of bread and ale just as travellers have done for 900 years.

Winchester City Mill

Another treasure is the mediaeval Winchester City Mill, a restored working watermill on the River Itchen where you can watch flour being ground and spot wildlife from the millrace walkway.

For budget-friendly options, try Travelodge Winchester for reliable comfort close to the city centre, or Premier Inn Winchester for good value near major attractions. If you're after something with more character, The Old Vine offers boutique charm right on the Cathedral green with rooms that won't break the bank if you book ahead.
