Published: 01/11/2021

This week see’s the first Christmas markets of the year arrive! There’s nothing better than exploring the beautiful festive stalls for the perfect gift or getting into the Christmas spirit with some mulled wine.

So if you’re thinking of treating the family, friends or someone special to a Christmas market trip this year, here’s a budget-friendly guide to some of our favourites.

Bristol Christmas Market

5 November - 23 December

Head down south this Christmas for Bristol’s traditional market. Spreading across Bristol City Centre, the market features more than 40 seasonal stalls that provide a unique taste of family street entertainment, handmade artisan crafts and delicious food from crepes to Bratwurst. Head over to the popular Jӓger Barn Bar for a delicious tipple where you can even book one of their brand new cosy igloo pods for an ever more festive evening.

It may get a bit cold around Bristol harbour, so what better way to warm yourself up than at one of the city's many cosy pubs or cafes? Experience some traditional Bristolian cider and bring some home to enjoy over the festive period!

Winter Wonderland Hyde Park, London

19 November - 3 January 2022

London and Hyde Park are always worth a visit, but Winter Wonderland is such a unique way to see the capital that it should be on everyone’s list.

Aside from seeing the beauty of the park itself, this free entry event offers spectacular shows in the MegaDome, ice skating on the largest open-air rink, more than 100 rides, and more. Plus the popular Magical Ice Kingdom is back. A fully immersive, frost covered land of magic and wonder through the medium of amazing ice sculptures! But don’t forget to wrap up warm for it!

Don’t forget to pre-book your tickets for the big attractions to guarantee you experience the rides as this will fast track your entry to the event too.

St Nicholas Christmas Fair, York

18 November - 23 December

If tradition is what you’re after, fall under the medieval spell of York this Christmas at the St Nicholas Christmas Fair. York’s classic cobbles, amazing independent shops and historic architecture will be beautifully lit to celebrate the festive season. At the award-winning market you will experience fine Yorkshire produce showcased at the Yuletide Village, and if you’re looking for more traditional Christmas gifts, wander amongst the many alpine chalets on Parliament Street.

Plus, with plenty of upcoming events from a Christmas Ghost Hunt, to Winter Welly Walks and Candlelit Choir and Jingles, York at Christmas is the perfect all-rounder destination.

Frankfurt Christmas Market Birmingham

4 November - 23 December

The largest authentic German Christmas market outside Germany and Austria, Birmingham’s ever-growing market is a feast for the senses. Enjoy the aroma of giant bratwurst sausages, gluhwein and gingerbread, listen to live music in Victoria Square, and enjoy ice skating and shopping for handcrafted leatherwork and wooden decorations, toys, jewellery, and much more in the UK’s second city.

Lincoln Christmas Market

2 December - 5 December

While this Christmas market isn’t around for long, it’s an impressive sight to behold. With over 250 stalls meandering through the classic city of Lincoln, it’s almost like stepping back through time. The Artists' Christmas Village offers goods from local artists and crafters, and shops across the city will also close later while the market is open,
