John Gilbert appointed Vice President of Eurolines Organisation

18 October 2005

John Gilbert, the Managing Director of Eurolines UK, has been appointed Vice-President of the pan-European organisation.

Eurolines, which is a federation of 32 international service operators, is the leading brand name in coach travel across Europe with services clocking up 140 million kilometres a year and covering over 700 destinations.

The appointment of Mr. Gilbert – who is also head of the organisation's marketing committee – will be supporting the President, Jean Wyns, and Secretary-General, Jan Velleman, in developing the organisation.

Speaking about his appointment John Gilbert said: "There are some very big challenges in the business and my task will be to assist the President in focusing the partners on the key issues and positive future strategy for the organisation."

John Gilbert has been at the international section of National Express since 1984, beginning with Manager of the Eurolines Travel Division and is currently Managing Director of Eurolines UK which has recently launched several initiatives to challenge travellers' perceptions about coach travel. It has also focused on delivering value-added services on key routes, including new EurolinesPlus 'customer comfort' packages on its London-Paris and London-Amsterdam routes. It is about to be launched on a third route to Cork in early 2006.
