What's on guide
Millais, Tate Britain, London
Leading light of the Pre-Raphaelite movement John Millais is the subject of a new exhibition just opened at Tate Britain.
Featuring much-admired pieces such as Ophelia and Mariana as well as his later society portraits, the show is the first exhibition since 1898 to examine the entirety of the artist's career and the first major solo survey of his art since the Royal Academy retrospective of 1967.
The exhibit tells the story of his shift from early academic works to his emergence as a contemporary of Rossetti producing his subsequent Pre-Raphaelite pieces, which typically depict stoic and sensuous beauties and have become some of the most iconic images in British art.
The show runs from September 27th to January 13th 2008.
Address: Tate Britain, Millbank, London, SW1P 4RG.
Other forthcoming exhibitions currently at Tate Britain include Colour and Line: Turner's Experiments and 1807: Blake, Slavery and the Radical Mind.
