Vampire Weekend, Carling Academy, Birmingham
Indie-rock band Vampire Weekend will be performing at the Carling Academy in Birmingham on October 20th as part of a UK tour.
Fronted by lead vocalist and guitarist Ezra Koenig, the group was formed in New York in February 2006.
Their eponymous debut album was launched in January this year, which went to number 15 in the UK charts, and from which the singles Mansard Roof, A-Punk, Oxford Comma and Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa were released.
Critics have described their first record as a combination of African pop, reggae, Irish folk and US indie-rock, with the Guardian calling them "a bold band that can balance dextrous originality with an innate pop sensibility".
Vampire Weekend have been nominated for Best New Act, Best Video and Best Album at the Q Awards forthcoming on October 6th this year.
The group will also be gigging at venues in London, Manchester, Liverpool and Glasgow and tickets are selling fast - book now to avoid disappointment.
