The Comedy of Errors, The Lowry, Manchester
The Comedy of Errors, by common consent one of Shakespeare's funniest plays, comes to Manchester this week for a short run.
The Royal Shakespeare Company production features performances from Siobhan Redmond (The Smoking Room, Holby City) along with Jason Merrells (Waterloo Road, Cutting It) and Simon Merrells (Family Affairs, London's Burning).
The Comedy of Errors tells the story of two sets of identical twins. Antipholus of Syracuse and his servant, Dromio of Syracuse, arrive in Ephesus - a place which unknown to them is the home of their twin brothers, Antipholus of Ephesus and his servant, Dromio of Ephesus.
When the Syracusans meet their kith and kin, a series of misadventures based on mistaken identities ensure.
Among the results are unfairly administered beatings, a narrowly averted incestuous seduction, the arrest of Antipholus of Ephesus, and highly charged accusations being flung of infidelity, theft, madness, and demonic possession.
The Comedy of Errors runs from October 19th-27th.
Address: The Lowry, Pier Eight, Salford Quays, Salford, M50 3AZ.
