Siena: Art For A City, National Gallery, London
The Italian city of Siena's contribution to Renaissance art is highlighted in a new exhibition coming soon to the National Gallery.
Renaissance Siena: Art For A City features a number of works which have before been seen in this country, including paintings, sculptures, drawings, manuscripts and ceramics.
The central focus of the show, however, will be on Francesco Di Giorgio and Domenico Beccafumi, who are regarded as among the leading lights of the Sienese renaissance era.
Renaissance Siena: Art For A City runs from October 24th to January 13th 2008.
Address: National Gallery, Trafalgar Square, London, WC2N 5DN.
Also showing at the National Gallery until November 4th is Scratch the Surface - a show which examines the role that the slave trade played in the lives of two people who featured in paintings in the gallery's collection: Zoffany's portrait of Mrs Oswald and Colonel Tarleton by Joshua Reynolds.
