Screening Day, D-Day Museum, Portsmouth
A programme of films documenting the UK's war effort both overseas and on the home front during the Second World War is taking place at Portsmouth's D-Day museum in November.
Showing two days after Remembrance Day on November 13th, among the rarely seen shorts is fascinating footage of the construction and laying of Pluto (Pipeline Under the Ocean) and a wartime recruitment film for hospital nurses.
Also set to be highlights is a film of Horsa gliders and a documentary detailing the system of radio communications used by the troops in France on D-Day.
Permanent exhibits of interest on the day include the magnificent Overlord Embroidery - a tapestry which acts as a tribute to the sacrifice and noble heroism of the men and women who took part in Operation Overlord - and weapons used in the campaign.
Address: D-Day Museum and Overlord Embroidery, Clarence Esplanade, Southsea, PO5 3NT.
