Riverdance, Playhouse, Edinburgh
Ireland's most famous all-dancing theatre show will be heading to Edinburgh as part of its 2009 UK tour.
The live performance, based on Irish step dancing, will take place at the Edinburgh Playhouse on March 3rd and 4th.
Since its original birth during the interval of the European Song Contest in 1981, the Riverdance quickly rose to fame.
Audiences were attracted to its unusual dancing style, which involves fast leg movements while upper-body movements are kept largely rigid and stationary.
Michael Flatley, who choreographed his own routine for the original performance - then called Timedance - at the Eurovision event in 1981, became an instant hit.
Although other dancers have taken over from Flatley, the Riverdance show still continues to rise in popularity.
It has even cracked the US after performances at New York's Radio City Music Hall in March 1996.
Tickets for a new North American tour to take place this year have recently been put on sale.
Riverdance will also be performed at venues in Birmingham, London, Bristol, Manchester, Cardiff and Liverpool over the coming months.
