Rent, Duke of York Theatre, London.
A radically revamped version of Broadway favourite Rent is currently breathing new life into London's theatreland.
The show's producers have opted to abandon traditional theatre ticketing in favour of a first-come first-served policy, which aims to give performances a less stuffy atmosphere more in keeping with a pop concert than a West End show.
This approach is reflected in the young cast from a non-theatrical background such as former Sugababe Siobhan Donaghy and one-time Big Breakfast presenter Denise Van Outen and in the bold choice of Kylie Minogue's creative director William Baker to oversee the choreography.
Based on Puccini's La Boheme, Rent first opened in New York in the 1980s and tells of fractured romances against the backdrop of AIDS.
Rent runs until April 5th 2008.
Address: Duke of York Theatre, St Martin's Lane, London, WC2.
Also currently showing in London is Hairspray - a stage adaptation of John Water's campy Hollywood classic - and Fiddler on the Roof.
