Remembrance Sunday in London
The National Service of Remembrance at the Cenotaph in Whitehall will be held on Sunday November 11th.
A wreath will be laid by the Queen, while members of the cabinet, along with opposition party leaders and former prime ministers, will be invited to lay down tributes at the cenotaphs.
Also in attendance will be representatives of the Armed Forces, Merchant Air and Navy, as well as religious leaders.
"The National Service of Remembrance at the Cenotaph is a unique expression of national homage devoted to the remembrance of those who have given their lives in war," states the British Legion.
The ceremony was initially conceived as a commemoration of soldiers who died between 1914 and 1918, but the scope of the ceremony was extended after the Second World War and again in 1980.
In related news, the Duke of Edinburgh has opened the Royal British Legion Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey by placing a cross in the field.
