Notting Hill Carnival, London
Sound systems and steel bands take over the genteel environs of west London this weekend for the 42nd Notting Hill carnival.
As well as the event's traditional blend of reggae, soca and calypso, musical attractions across the weekend include soul stalwart Norman Jay's Good Times bus, the Sancho Panza house float and live performances from chart star Lethal Bizzle and a host of up and coming Hip-Hop talent.
Meanwhile, the estimated one million attendees of the largest event of its kind in Europe will also be able to sample Caribbean cuisine from jerk chicken to banana fritters from the hundreds of food stalls.
The Sunday is designated as the kids' day, with a children's parade and a generally gentler feel, while the Bank Holiday Monday is busier with a greater focus on sound systems and dancing.
A number of venues in west London will also be hosting unofficial after-parties.
