Dutch Portraits, National Gallery, London
Key works from Rembrandt and Frans Hals are currently showing at the National Gallery as part of a fascinating exhibition of Dutch art from the 17th Century.
The Dutch Portraits exhibition focuses on the period when the Dutch masters turned their attention from the lower orders - a period epitomised by Vermeer's Potato Eaters - and instead began to document the country's rising middle class.
Among the famous pieces featured are Rembrant's The Shipbuilder and his Wife and the equally iconic work from 1667 Portrait of an Elderly Man, which depicts the sitter slumped in a chair and pickled in drink.
Entry to the exhibition is £10 for adults and £5 for students and the unemployed. Children go free.
The gallery is open from 10am to 6pm daily (9pm Wednesdays).
Address: The National Gallery, Trafalgar Square, London WC2N 5DN.
