Dr Doolittle, New Wimbledon Theatre, London
Showbusiness veteran Tommy Steele is currently starring in Doctor Doolittle at the New Wimbledon Theatre.
The show uses spectacular special effects and spellbinding puppetry to recreate the magical talking animals, based on the Rex Harrison Hollywood re-telling of the tale of a man whose unique gift is that he is able to understand what our furry friends are saying.
Songs from Leslie Bricusse's Oscar-wining score such as Talk to the Animals and I've Never Seen Anything Like It have become regarded as classics of the golden age of musicals.
As well as starring in classic British movies such as Finian's Rainbow, Tommy Steele also enjoyed a parallel musical career as one of the leading lights of the UK skiffle movement.
Dr Doolittle finishes its run November 3rd.
Address: New Wimbledon Theatre, London, SW19 1QG.
