British Open Show Jumping Championships, National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham

Riding skills will be tested to the limit when barrel racing features in this year's British Open Show Jumping Championships - back by popular demand.

The rodeo discipline, which is popular across Europe and the US, is set to test riders' agility and speed when it takes place at the Birmingham National Exhibition Centre between April 16th and 19th.

Barrel racing requires competitors to twist and turn their horses around a number of barrels located within a triangular pattern, but overturning one results in a time penalty.

"The horsemanship skills and competitive drive in this fast and furious event make it a crowd favourite," the organisers said.

Also included in the four-day event will be equestrian displays, solo rides and team sports.

The British Open Show Jumping Championships will take place after a number of sporting events head to Birmingham in March - the All England Badminton Championships is from March 3rd to 8th while Premier League Darts action hits the National Indoor Arena on March 26th.
