BP Portrait Award, National Gallery London

Showcasing the very best in contemporary portrait painting for the past 28 years, this year's BP Portrait Award winner and nominees are once again on show at the National Portrait Gallery.

This year's overall winner was Paul Emsley of Bradford-upon-Avon, with a study of the face of his 67-year-old neighbour and fellow artist Michael Simpson.

Meanwhile, Czech artist Hynek Marinec's portrait of his girlfriend won the Young Artist Award while Gareth Reed and Timothy Hyman shared the Travel Award.

The exhibition runs until September 16th.

Visitors to the National Portrait Gallery might also wish to visit the Daily Encounters exhibit, which seeks to represent Britishness through archival newspaper photography and comprises photos of politicians, jockeys, gangsters, models and actors along with images of the newspaper industry itself.

Address: National Portrait Gallery, St Martin's Place, London, WC2H 0HE.
