Air, Opera House, Bournemouth

French electro poppers Air play Bournemouth later this month as part of a short tour.

Having announced their presence in 1998 with their debut Moon Safari album's blend of Francoise Hardy-style Gallic sophistication, futurist imagery and cool electro, the band have since ploughed a more esoteric furrow that recalls 1970s prog rock.

The widescreen production and scope of the band's music have seen them commissioned to soundtrack Sofia Coppola's debut movie The Virgin Suicides, while their enthusiasm for the movie scores also saw them recently revamp the soundtrack for 1980s horror classic The Fog.

The band remains best known, however, for their early hits Sexy Boy and Kelly Watch the Stars.

Further forthcoming events at the Opera House include a special Halloween party featuring DJ performances from the Mighty Boosh and Kasabian and a live performance from Amy Winehouse collaborator Mark Ronson.
