What's on guide
2manydjs, The Custard Factory, Birmingham
People searching for a rave to bring in the New Year need look no further than the Custard Factory on December 31st, which is playing host to Belgium electro sensation 2manydjs.
Best known under their rock aliases as Soulwax, David and Stephen Dewaele produce mix-albums under the brand and will be playing in 2009 at Birmingham's hottest new venue.
David says: "When we played our first set for Xfm, several club owners phoned up during the transmission to ask us to come and play their venues."
Among some of their mixes are combinations of the Clash's The Magnificent Seven and Basement Jaxx's Romeo, Destiny's Child's Independent Women with 10CC's Dreadlock Holiday and Royksopp's Eple and Nine to Five, by Dolly Parton.
The DJs mix 45 songs into an hour of music which functions as a consistent but informative exploration of pop music's history.
According to the organisers, the group show that the idea of 'genre' is an outdated concept.
Parent to the 2manydjs brothers is Zaki, a 60s DJ who became involved in children's programmes and gameshows, a minor celebrity in their home country.
