Oxford - Steeped in history, Oxford is a perfect city to stroll around and take in all it has to offer. If you're looking for something a little more adventurous then take a trip down the River Cherwell in a traditional Oxford punt boat. The Magdalen Bridge Boathouse offers punts, rowing boats and pedalos for hire.
Portsmouth - Whether you're looking for a day out at the beach or a day of shopping at Gunwharf Quays Outlet Shopping Centre, Portsmouth's a perfect destination for a day out. If sunbathing and shopping isn't really your thing, then this summer immerse yourself in some history at The Mary Rose Museum. During the summer, take a trip to the museum on a Friday for Free Friday Fun At The Mary Rose Museum, which offers traditional Tudor games and lots of different activities around the museum.
Nottingham - Have a day out in Nottingham and become accustomed with one of the most famous outlaws in English history, Robin Hood. Every Saturday during the summer, take the Robin Hood Town Tour, which is a walking tour around the city taking in some of Robin Hood's key places associated with the outlaw and also taking in some of the sites of the city.
Chester Zoo - From baby tiger cubs to 110 acres of award-winning gardens, Chester Zoo is a perfect summer day out for all the family. This summer the Zoo is opening its Mind-bogglingly Big Bugs attraction which features robotic giants including a stupendous 24 foot scorpion, an extra-large 10 foot ladybird and spiders.
Plymouth - Although there isn't a beach in the centre of Plymouth, there are some beautiful shingle beaches in easy reach by local transport. However, if you're looking to stay in the city then head to the Hoe for breathtaking views of the surrounding bays and a lovely spot to sit and have a picnic by the sea.

Dinosaur Adventure Park, Norfolk
The whole family can take a trip back in time for an adventure amongst the dinosaurs in this great day out for all ages. Explore a wooded trail to find life-size dinosaurs, with T-Rex and Brontosaurus at every turn. Speakers hidden in trees keep everyone on their toes by creating prehistoric grunts and roars on your journey. For a break from the monsters, there's a huge adventure park, farmyard and restaurant.
Chessington World of Adventures, Surrey
If you're looking for a really wild day out, Chessington World of Adventures offers you a zoo, theme park and more, surrounded by sprawling gardens filled with floral displays and wildlife. The zoo boasts more than 1,000 animals including gorillas and tigers, as well as a Sea Life Centre. For something less wild, explore the theme park's Market Square, Pirates Cove, and Land of the Dragons for some of the most thrilling rides in the UK, before relaxing at one of the many restaurants or fast food outlets.
Eden Project, Cornwall
Children and adults alike love the walk-through "biomes", one with a rainforest ecosystem, the other with Mediterranean trees and plants. There's also action and relaxation fit for all the family too, with zip wires, gardens, play areas, restaurants and cafes.
