With sunshine a precious commodity here in the UK, when it does make a welcome appearance, make the most of it and take a trip to the beach. We’ve done all the hard work for you and compiled a list of the best beach trips to enjoy this summer, (even if it does rain!)
Bournemouth – With seven miles of beautiful sand, there’s plenty of space to relax on Bournemouth’s main beach. From 29 July - 25 August, there are more than 100 free shows and activities happening in and around Bournemouth with the Kid's Family Fun Festival. Featuring magicians, puppet shows, fun workshops and games, there's something for everyone. All the events are completely free.
Portsmouth - If you're not a fan of pebbled beaches, then never fear, as running along Portsmouth seafront is Southsea Common, a beautiful common area where you can sit back and relax in the sun. Enjoy the traditional seaside amusements at one end of the seafront or walk a little further along and enjoy the indoor swimming pool at The Pyramids Centre. Alternatively, you can take the Hovercraft over to the beautiful Isle of Wight - the choice is yours!
Blackpool – The quintessential British seaside resort has to be Blackpool. From fish and chips on the pier to donkey rides on the beach and white knuckle rides at Blackpool’s Pleasure Beach. This summer why not check out the Blackpool Tower Circus? From amazing acrobats to jaw-dropping stunts, you'll be amazed at the skill of this circus. The circus is open all summer and into November.
Brighton - Although Brighton is a pebbled beach, the promenade and pier are steeped in history, you'll just want to sit back in a deckchair and enjoy the view. The beach can become extremely busy during the height of summer, so get there early and claim the best spot on the beach. If it does decide to rain, then head to the lower promenade near the Pier where you'll find some great galleries to explore in the Artists' Quarter.
Weymouth - If the sun is shining then the beautiful white sand of Weymouth Beach is a perfect place to set up for a day of sun at the seaside. With safe blue waters, you can be sure children will enjoy a paddle or swim in the water. Why not head to Weymouth for 21 August for the Weymouth Carnival? The town comes alive with a range of activities, attractions and events for the entire family to enjoy.
