How much is that K9 at the window?

2 February 2007

Time travelling terrier K9 opted for a more down to earth form of transport when National Express came to his aid this week.

The genuine extra terrestrial side kick to Tom Baker's Doctor Who is more used to fighting Daleks than transport troubles. His new owner Dale Who was simply trying to get from Brighton to Heathrow for a Sci Fi convention - but could not find a mode of public transport that would accommodate his robotic friend's metre-long frame.

National Express came to the rescue and even waived its own no pet rule to allow the VIP - Very Important Pet - a seat.

Dale Who, from Brighton comments: "Both the train and the underground said I wouldn't be able to take K9 on board but luckily I called National Express who saved the day by offering K9 a seat on one of their coaches. They were very accommodating and now we can sit side-by-side the whole way there!"

"K9 and Dr Who are such great British institutions that when we heard of their troubles, we just had to help out!" said Joy Williams, Communications Manager at National Express.

Since Dale bought K9 from Lincoln's Toy Museum he has groomed him to such an extent that the dog has over the years been completely refitted. Dale originally paid just £100 for K9 but, thanks to his modelling work as a prop for numerous magazines and Dr Who websites and conventions, he has added enormous value to the dog that it is now estimated to be worth between £8,000 - 10,000.
