Help

The linked headings below refer to the headings on each section of our booking pages, so you can see at a glance where you are. Click on the links to jump to the relevant section.

Step one - Your journey

Please choose your journey

Please choose where you'd like to start and end your journey.

The drop-down list shows our most popular destinations - if the location you want isn't on the list, click the link to enter your own. We go to over 1000 places in total!

If you have been given a promotional code, for example from a leaflet or special offer, enter it here. Otherwise, leave this space blank. Do not enter your Discount Coachcard number (if you have one) - you will be asked for this later.

When you've entered a destination, click "times and fares" and you will be shown a list to confirm the locations. If you're not sure which location to choose, the city or town's main coach station is shown in capitals.

Click "continue" to proceed to step two.

Step two - Times & passengers

What time do you want to travel?

Choose what time you would like to like to travel from the options given.

You will be shown the journeys available. You can choose to view afternoon journeys only by clicking "view pm only", or morning journeys only by clicking "view am only".

For each journey, you can see the number of changes required, how long the journey will take, what facilities are available on the coach (see key below) and whether there are funfares available.

CC - climate control
XL - extra legroom
LS - leather seats
WC - toilet facilities
TV - nxtv showing

Who is travelling?

Enter the number of people travelling. "Adult" means anyone aged 16 or over who does not fall into any of the other categories in this section, so do not include adults aged over 60, disabled adults or adults travelling with one of the Discount Coachcards pictured. However, you should include adults travelling with Family 1plus1 or 2plus2 cards.

Unfortunately we cannot process concessionary tickets (tickets for those over 60 or disabled passengers) at the same time as full fare tickets. You should therefore make separate bookings, with concessionary passengers on one and full fare passengers on another.

Click the "continue" button to proceed.

Step three - Fares

Are you a National Express member? (optional)

If you are a National Express member, log in here in order to gain points on your booking.

Your username will normally be your email address. If you have forgotten your password, you can click on the link to get your password emailed to you via our automated service.

If you can't remember your username, and it is not your email address, click here to send us an email.

If you are not yet a National Express member, click here to find out how membership might benefit you.

Fares available

Choose the fare you prefer from the list. Click on the name of the fare to read the fare description. Please note that some fares, such as funfares, are e-Ticket only, so you will need to be able to print the ticket out from your computer. You can choose a fare with or without insurance. Insurance costs just 99p and provides personal cover of up to £750 on property, £20,000 for accident and £1m for public liability. Click here to find out more.

If you have chosen journeys with funfares available, you will only have ten minutes to complete your booking. This is because only a limited number of funfares are available and they are allocated on a "first come first served" basis.

National Express Points redemption

If you are a member and you have National Express Points in your count, you will be asked if you would like to redeem them here. Every 100 points is worth £1. You can use as many of your points as you like, or you can save them for a later date. Click here to find out more about our points system.

Step four - Your details

Your details

From this point onwards, you are on our secure site. This means that whatever information you input will not be stored on the browser and your personal information is safe. If you are using Internet Explorer, you can click on the padlock at the bottom of your browser window to view our security details.

Please make sure that your email address is correct, as this is the email address we will use to send your confirmation email.

The fields marked with an asterisk (*) must be filled in.

Security number

As well as your credit/debit card number, we also ask for your card's security number, as an extra safety measure. This number is only printed on the card - it does not appear on the magnetic strip, or on your receipts or bank statements - and, as the digits are not raised, standard credit card readers cannot scan them. In theory, these numbers are only available to you, the cardholder.

Coachcard details

If you have indicated that you are using a Coachcard, you will be asked to enter your Coachcard number here. This will start with a digit (usually 1 or 3), followed by a letter, then six more digits.

Ticket delivery details

If there is time before your journey, you can have the tickets posted to you. A booking fee may be payable if you choose this option; please check when booking.

We recommend, however, that you choose the e-Ticket option. Simply print the ticket that you will receive at the end of the booking process: this is your e-Ticket. Take care of it, as you must take this with you when you travel.

If you have chosen to receive your ticket as an e-Ticket, you should also receive a confirmation email. This contains a link to your e-Ticket online, together with a security code which you will need to access it. This means that you can revisit the site and print your e-Ticket at any time.

(Please note that you must provide a print-out of the ticket. A handwritten ticket will not be accepted by the driver, nor will a simple note of the ticket number. We do not allow refunds or cancellations to e-Tickets. An e-Ticket can be amended, providing it is not also a funfare, for a charge of £1.50, but please note that an excess fare will also be charged where a higher fare category applies.)

If the e-Ticket option is not available (for example, if one leg of the journey is operated by a third party), you can choose to collect your tickets, prior to departure, during the opening hours of the collection point. Please note that this option is only available where the e-Ticket option is not available. Click here to find out more.

Step five - Check booking

Please check your booking

Have a look at your travel details and check everything is correct. If you would like to change any details, click the "back" button to return to the relevant page and resubmit your information. Please note that, as this is a secure site, the browser will not hold your details and you will have to resubmit all of your information.

Terms and Conditions

Make sure that you have read and understood the terms and conditions that apply to your transaction. Usually these are made up of our General Conditions of Carriage and, depending on the ticket you have chosen, a set of special conditions that apply to that ticket type. You will not be able to continue with your booking unless you have checked the box to indicate that you have accepted the terms.

When you are happy with all of the booking details, press the "book now" button to confirm and make your booking.

Step six - Confirmation

Booking completed

Print your e-Ticket

We strongly recommend that you print your e-Ticket at this point, as although we will send the confirmation via email, we cannot guarantee that you will receive it. If you choose not to print at this point, make sure you make a note of the ticket number and security code, just in case. Then you can access your e-Ticket online at any time.
