Truth and Beauty, Harewood House, nr Leeds

An exhibition examining the rich and varied history of African sculpture and its continuing influence on Western artists is currently on show at Harewood House near Leeds.

Truth and Beauty comprises African pieces already in the stately home's collection as well as pieces from a number of private collections that have not previously been seen together.

Meanwhile, the influence of the work on European sculptors can be seen most vividly in Jacob Epstein's much-acclaimed Adam, which is exhibited in the entrance hall of the House.

Further events set to take place at Harewood include a show detailing the life and work of furniture maker Chippendale the Younger and Laura Ford's Armour Boys, an installation of child-sized suits of armour which looks at the plight of child soldiers who are fighting in conflicts around the world today.
