Derby: attractions

It's a great place for a short city break or a perfect base to explore the nearby Peak District. Recently voted one of the 'Top 10 Must See' cities in the UK, there's no shortage of things to see and do.

Treak Cliff Cavern is the only place in the world where Blue John Stone naturally occurs. There is also the chance to see some of the finest stalactites in the Peak District, which can be viewed in their 'Aladdin's Cave', 'Fairy Grotto' and 'Dreamcave' chambers.

Pickford's House is a stunning townhouse and garden from the 1770s. This fascinating house has a kitchen, laundry and scullery as it may have been used in 1830. There’s also a garden to explore and a basement air raid shelter, recreated in a 1940s style. You will also find a wonderful collection of toy theatres.

Cathedral Quarter Ghost Walk - Derby is apparently one of the most haunted cities in the UK, with over 315 sightings of ghosts in the city centre alone! There are a variety of Ghostwalks to choose from, which are led by experienced, informative, and friendly guides. Be on the lookout though!

Derby's Museum and Art Gallery is home to the largest collection of Joseph Wright paintings in the world as well as a huge collection of intriguing treasures including an Egyptian Mummy!

The Peak District National Park is known and loved for its breathtaking landscapes and is full of adventure. Here you can find lots of lovely market towns, pretty villages, historic houses and famous attractions.

Darley Park is within walking distance of the city centre and offers gorgeous views of Derby. It is the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city centre and great for picnicking and relaxing.
