Celebrate Britain

Bristol

Bristol is a bustling and graceful city with plenty of things to see and do. Its rich maritime past is evident everywhere you look and there's no shortage of heritage and cultural attractions to enjoy. The West Country's capital can also lay claim to the UK Museum of the Year 2006/07 and Brunel's SS Great Britain - alongside a host of top theatres, bars, shops and live music venues for you to enjoy.

Things to do for less than £10

  • Head for heights? Visit Brunel's Clifton Suspension Bridge and see spectacular views of the Avon Gorge and elegant Clifton. Free to pedestrians, with free tours at 3.00pm every Sunday throughout summer.
  • As the first iron ocean-going ship with a screw propeller, the SS Great Britain was Brunel/s maritime masterpiece. See the restored version at Great Western Dockyard. Tickets start at £5.95 and last for a year from date of purchase.
  • The Georgian House can be found at 7 Great George Street and is one of the UK's most complete examples of an 18th century town house. Free admission.
  • Calling all you land lubbers - take the Pirate Walk around Bristol's quays and discover the city's turbulent, swashbuckling history. Great fun and not too many pieces of eight!
