Welsh National Opera at home, Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff
Welsh National Opera will be opens its autumn season at its home, the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff from September 22nd.
This season will see the Welsh National Opera - Europe's busiest touring opera company - performing a new opera, James MacMillan's The Sacrifice, in association with Liverpool Culture Company, alongside Italian bel canto classics Rossini's La Cenerentola (Cinderella) and Verdi's Il Trovatore (The Troubadour).
The Sacrifice, MacMillan's second full-length opera, directed by Katie Mitchell, is inspired by the ancient Welsh tales of the Mabinogion and stars Christopher Purves, Lisa Milne, Sarah Tynan, Peter Hoare and Leigh Melrose, telling the tale of a ruler's sacrifice for his country.
La Cenerentola and Il Trovatore are conducted by music director Carlo Rizzi, sung in Italian with English and Welsh subtitles.
