US National Football League, Wembley Stadium London
Fans of American football are in for a treat as Wembley Stadium is to play host to the Miami Dolphins and the New York Giants at the first National Football League (NFL) regular-season game to be played outside the US.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodall made the announcement two days before the Super Bowl XLI in Miami.
An estimated 10,000 American fans are expected to travel to London to watch the game.
The Dolphins and Giants have won four Super Bowl titles between them, with the Giants having been NFL champions six times.
Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone, said the city is excited to be hosting the game: "We are very pleased about having teams of the caliber of the Dolphins and Giants coming to London.
"There will be many millions of TV viewers in the United States alone, so it will be a great opportunity to showcase London to new visitors and for people to see the way we uniquely enjoy our sport."
During the 2006 regular season the NFL achieved a record average attendance of over 67,000 with more than 97 per cent of games sold out.
The match kicks off on October 28th at 5pm.
