The Borrowers, Midlands Art Centre, Birmingham

A charming production of The Borrowers is currently showing in Birmingham at the Midlands Art Centre.

Based on a 1952 novel by Mary Norton, the Borrowers tells the story of the unheeded little people who live among us, and who derive their name by borrowing things belonging to humans.

This production adapts the first of the three Borrowers books and relates how Arietty and her parents Pod and Homilys' world is threatened when they encounter a human boy.

The enduring popularity of the story is born out by the fact that the novel was this year named one of the best ten most important children's novels of the last 70 years by judges of the CILIP Carnegie Medal and has been the subject of two Hollywood film adaptations.

The Borrowers will be showing until December 21st.
