Inside and Out: Bernard Schottlander, Henry Moore Institute, Leeds

Renowned sculptor Bernard Schottlander's early work in the field of design forms the focus of an exhibition currently showing in Leeds.

Prior to finding acclaim for sculpture, throughout the 1950s Schottlander worked creating simple, primary-coloured designs for furniture and home fittings.

The show traces his progress in this field, to detail how the elegant forms of his interior furniture informed his later outdoors public sculpture and takes in many previously unseen pieces.

Among the exhibits are his news-stands, which were used for decades by London's daily newspaper the Evening Standard, and the finely crafted ashtrays, chairs and lamps that he was commissioned to create by the National Theatre.

Indoors and Out: Bernard Schottlander runs at the Henry Moore Institute until January 6th.
