Hello Dolly!, Birmingham Hippodrome
A brand new production of Hello Dolly! opens in Birmingham next month for a short stint at the
Best known for the 1969 cinematic adaptation starring Barbara Streisand, which was nominated for seven Academy Awards, the heartwarming show tells the story of America's most beloved matchmaker in turn of the century New York.
This production stars former Eastenders star Anita Dobson as the titular Dolly Levi and Darren Day as Cornelius Hack.
The show is packed with memorable songs including Put On Your Sunday Clothes, Ribbons Down My Back, Before the Parade Passes By, Hello, Dolly!, It Only Takes a Moment and So Long, Dearie, all of which have since gone on to canonised in the Broadway songbook.
Since it was first staged in 1964, Hello Dolly! has been revived on Broadway three times, with the original cast recording of the soundtrack inducted in the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2002.
