Edible Royal Pavillion, Brighton

A spectacular edible version of Brighton's famous Royal pavilion is currently being exhibited at the Jubilee Library.

The 16ft exhibit has been built from ten tons of vacuum-packed rice by the UK-based Edible Construction Company in collaboration with Italian designer and artist Eduardo Malagigi.

Visitors will be able to view the construction until August 18, after which point it will be disassembled and the rice will be redistributed to children worldwide through the charity Feed the Children.

Up to 100,000 children are expected to receive a meal through the project, which was conceived to draw attention to the problem of global food shortages.

One of the UK's best-loved and grandest buildings, the original Royal Pavillion was originally built as a royal residence in the 19th century for the Prince Regent.

The building's decorative style was inspired by the Indo-Saracenic school of architecture which was popular in India throughout the period.
