Brief Encounter, West Yorkshire Playhouse, Leeds

A new production of Noel Coward's heart-rending tale of chaste, unfulfilled wartime romance comes to Leeds this month for a short-run.

The play, which was originally entitled Still Life, tells the tale of two married people stuck in loveless relationships who fall in love while waiting for their trains together.

A 1945 film starring Trevor Howard and Celia Johnson and directed by the legendary David Lean of Lawrence of Arabia - fame is now regarded as one of the most iconic movies in the history of British cinema.

Brief Encounter runs at the West Yorkshire Playhouse from October 24th to November 10th.

Address: West Yorkshire Playhouse, Playhouse Square, Leeds, LS2 7UP.

Other forthcoming theatrical attractions currently playing in Leeds include There's Something About Simmy - a Bollywood-infused slice of kitchen sink theatre - and Alan Bennett's The History Boys.
