What's on guide
42nd Street, Bristol Hippodrome
Renowned for spectacular choreography and a hit-packed score, a brand new production of the classic American musical 42nd Street is currently playing at the Birmingham Hippodrome.
Adapted from a novel by Bradford Ropes, the play is an inspirational tale of small-town girl Peggy Sawyer's meteoric rise from chorus girl to Broadway star.
The play is much-loved for its score written by Harry Warren with lyrics by Al Dublin, from which many of the songs - including Forty-Second Street, It Must Be June, Shuffle off To Buffalo, Young and Healthy and You're Getting To Be A Habit With Me - are now regarded as standards of musical theatre.
A 1933 film adaptation, with choreography from Busby Berkley, was so successful that it was seen as having saved Warner Brothers from financial collapse.
The play completes its run on October 13th.
Address: Bristol Hippodrome, St Augustines Parade, Bristol, BS1 4UZ.
